Here, on the eve of another football season, I am sad to report the blog is going on hiatus.
Fate has dealt me a cruel hand. I work for a company that has steadily put tighter and tighter control over its computer systems. In other words, they don’t want their employees looking at *pron* while they are at work. Fine by me; I am not a big connoisseur of *pron* anyway. Then, last year, all fantasy sports sites were blocked. And now, … all blogging sites have been blocked as well. Rivals is even blocked. Most message boards are blocked as well, but somehow ponyfans.com has escaped this fate thus far.
Now, I have three options. First, I can just post from home. Given the fact that I am spending more and more time at work and I foolishly accepted a municipal board appointment on the side (don't ask), the little time I have at home is monopolized by two kids and a wife and enough stuff that I ought to be doing at home instead of blogging. Also, I am having problems with my browser's interface with blogger.
Second, I can blog by email (which I am doing with this post). The problem with that is that I can’t even read what I post until I get home. It is nearly impossible to post images or files or any kind of formatted text via email. I also can’t read comments. It really is not a practical option.
Third, I can go into semi-retirement, which is what I have reluctantly decided to do. I say "reluctantly" because I believe there is a place for an irreverent and critical voice of the SMU athletic depart that you don't get from the usual sources. I am still a Mustang fan and somehow, despite not going to a bowl and keeping its coach, SMU has gotten more money out of me than ever before. The blog may come back at some point, but for now I will spend my free time on ponyfans.com and at the games cheering for SMU.
Anyone is free to contact me at email@example.com.
For now, I leave you with this (again, because this is by email, I can't post it as a imbedded screen):
